A perfect starting point for trips to historic art cities (Florence, Siena, Pisa, and Lucca), medieval towns (San Gimignano, Volterra, Casale Marittimo, Castegnato Carducci, Bolgheri, and Suvereto), natural, leisure, archaeological and mineral parks, islands (Elba, Capraia, and Gorgona), and spas (Calidario). La Sainella Residence Toscana mare campagna is an estate covering 10 hectares, part of which is used for farming, including a beautiful olive grove. The two houses are surrounded by a eucalyptus wood. The apartments accommodate from 2 to 6 people, and are extremely comfortable, each with an independent entrance and a garden with a barbecue. Facilities include a communal sitting-room with a reading corner, wi-fi internet access, a swimming pool, a hydromassage pool, a solarium equipped with deckchairs and sunshades, a sauna, a children’s play area, a laundry, and bicycle rental. La Sainella respects the environment. We produce electrical power with solar panels, and hot water with a geothermal plant. Our olive oil is produced with natural methods, and can be tasted and purchased during your stay, together with the other produce of our land.

La Sainella Residence, Appartamenti Toscana mare campagna is a holiday complex immersed in nature. The apartments are spread over two houses, which are close together. All the apartments have an independent entrance, and a garden with a table, chairs, sunshade and barbecue. Built in traditional Tuscan rural style (with timber lofts, terracotta floors and exposed beams), the apartments have a fully-equipped kitchen corner, bathroom, TV, heating/air conditioning, and wi-fi internet access. Bed linen and towels on request. There are four types of apartment: SOLE: (One room, up to 4 people) living room with kitchen corner and double sofa bed, sleeping loft with double bed, bathroom with shower. MARINA: (Two rooms, up to 4 people) living room with kitchen corner and double sofa bed, bedroom with double bed, bathroom with shower, store-room. An ideal starting point for trips to the most interesting places in Tuscany. Historic cities like Florence (120 km), Siena (90 km), Lucca (70 km), and Pisa (55 km), medieval towns like San Gimignano (55 km), Volterra (32 km), Massa Marittima (65 km), Suvereto (40 km) and Casale Marittimo (5 km), Castagneto Carducci (15 km), and Bolgheri (5 km) with its famous Cypress Avenue, immortalized in the poem “Davanti San Guido” by the Nobel prize winner Giosuè Carducci, and its celebrated DOC wine area (Sassicaia). Close by there are also many parks (nature parks, leisure parks, archaeological parks and mineral parks) and several spas (such as Calidario). The port of Piombino, with short ferry connections for Elba Island, is only 40 kilometres away. Pisa, Tuscany’s main airport, is 50 kilometres away, while Cecina (10 km), on the Genoa-Rome line, is the nearest railway station.

A half-hour drive away is the Terme Calidario: a large pool for swimming (water temperature 34°), with deckchairs and sunbeds, and a well-being centre, with a sauna, Turkish baths, relaxation area, and massage room. Don’t miss a visit to the wine cellars along the Wine Route, and to one the many local restaurants that offer Tuscan specialities such as bruschetta and salami, vegetables and soups, pappardelle with wild boar sauce, cacciucco and other fish dishes.

Lovers of trekking can visit the nearby “Macchie della Magona” (5 km from the La Sainella Appartamenti Toscana mare campagna), a park with signposted paths through the hills, from one of which there is a magnificent view of the Cypress Avenue in Bolgheri. Then there are the pine woods, the natural parks along the coast that separate the sea-shore from the inhabited areas. The largest of these is the “Tombolo Meridionale” biogenetic reserve (5 km long and 500 m deep), which stretches from Marina di Bibbona to Cecina Mare. Here you can have a picnic, go for a walk with your children and with your dogs (there are two specially equipped beaches called “Bau Beach”), or go jogging. Lovers of road cycling can follow the routes designed by local legend Paolo Bettini, former World and Olympic champion and now a national team coach. Those who prefer mountain bikes can enjoy great routes through the pine-woods and the countryside. The climate (temperate throughout the year), the alternation of hills and plain, and the lack of traffic make the whole area a paradise for cyclists. There are various stables in the area, and it is possible to go horse riding in the woods and pine-woods. Along the coast (Marina di Bibbona, a Blue Flag resort, is only 5 km away) you can try water sports like canoeing, swimming, sailing and windsurfing. At the Cala de' Medici port in Castiglioncello (18 km) it is possible to hire sailing and motor boats of all kinds. Less than half an hour’s drive from La Sainella are the WWF Oasis in Bolgheri, the mineral park in Campiglia, the archaeological park in Baratti/Populonia, the Cavallino Matto children’s fun park, the Acquapark in Cecina, the Gallorose farmyard zoo, also in Cecina, and the Hanging Garden adventure park in Riparbella.
